My Little Secret
Are you ready for my secret? It’s really not a secret. For the people who are really close to me know I’m a Weight Watcher member. For the casual fans they probably have zero clue. I decided to come clean and share it openly. I’m not ashamed of Weight Watchers and counting my points. I’m going to embrace it openly for you all to see. You can count your calories while I’m counting my points and we will succeed together. There you have it. I’m a Beachbody coach who loves to attend Weight Watcher meetings and count my points.
Why on earth would a Beachbody coach need to go to Weight Watchers? Well I’ll tell you. Because I’m human. I’m not a workout machine and I’m not a perfectly clean eater. I joined before I was a coach several times.
I’m a repeat offender. No, not of a crime but of signing up and quitting Weight Watchers. When I signed up in April 2009 it was the 3rd time signing up. The pain of being overweight and uncomfortable in my skin became too great and I had to sign up. AGAIN! My 20 year high school reunion was coming up in a few months and I had to get busy. It had worked before and I didn’t know what else to do. Counting my points worked. It wasn’t calories and it fit within my lifestyle. I’ve been attending regular Weight Watcher meetings since April 2009. Pretty much every Thursday I’m weighing in. I wipe the slate clean of the last week and start over. As I started to lose more weight I became bolder with my workouts. I became confident enough to try Insanity. Insanity was my introduction into Beachbody and their products. Insanity brought my fitness to a new level. Insanity gave me the confidence to run in a 5K, and then jumped right into a ½ marathon. Now I love running and run in several races a year. I decided to become a coach and help others with their fitness.
Even though I can work out like a maniac and run in races I had difficulty with my food. Weight Watchers gave me the tools that worked for me. I’m not saying Beachbody doesn’t give me tools because they do. There are fitness guides, nutrition guides, meal planning tips and if you’ve followed me for any length of time you know how much I love Shakeology. Shakeology is a super food shake that is the bomb. I will not go off on a tangent about Shakeology. Let’s get back on track. You can read up about it later. You’ve heard the saying “You can’t out exercise a bad diet” or “Abs are made in the kitchen.” That is the struggle. I’ve hit some awesome goals with my weight loss and fitness. It is that last few pounds that are the struggle. When I count my points that is when I’m successful. Counting my points makes me conscious of what I’m putting into my mouth. Do I really want to eat this for the points? I’m sure it is the same for other sites like myfitnesspal.com or other calorie counting apps but this is the one that works for me. I love having weekly accountability meetings where other people are sharing with the same struggle. I really do love accountability and the competition with myself. Maybe this is why Beachbody challenge groups are so successful. People want help and accountability.
Today in the meeting I heard a quote that really spoke volumes to me. Either say no in the store once or say no at home multiple times until it is gone. I find that saying no to temptation and not bringing it in the home is the way I succeed.
I say do what works for you. If you need to have 5 apps on your phone to track things to stay on plan then do it. If you need to be a Beachbody coach and a Weight Watcher then do it. If you need to be a marathon runner to stay on track then do that. Find what works for you and stick with it. For me that is Beachbody and Weight Watchers.
Tracking is key. Tracking, monitoring and being aware of what you are eating is the beginning of success. Start tracking and see where you are.
